I get so encouraged and excited by the Word of God. Every day, as I read my Bible, I am reminded of His care and love towards us. His Word strengthens my faith and helps me get through any negative situations that may arise. I feel empowered to overcome obstacles that come my way. A successful way to start a day I am so grateful that, from an early age, my pastor/spiritual mentor encouraged me to be disciplined and to “seek first the kingdom of God” before I start my day. Reading the Word before I get up has carried me and helped make me successful. We all need help! I have come to believe that nothing can be taken for granted – we all need help in order to…

Last month, I wrote about the power of gratitude – and how being grateful can help us to open our hearts to the abundance of God’s grace and the beauty found in both the mundane and the extraordinary. As we turn the page to a new month, I am filled with anticipation and excitement to continue this journey with you. I ended my column with a challenge to our readers, encouraging you to start journalling things that you are grateful for. Next month, we’d love to share some of these messages in the magazine! There’s no better time to start cultivating a spirit of thankfulness in your life. Blown away by feedback So far, we have received many messages from readers with gratitude. These have been such a blessing to…
Email your questions to: info@joymag.co.za How can I sincerely pray for our government when they deliberately make decisions against the Word of God? The Bible commands us to pray for our leaders. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour...” (1 Tim 2:1-3). God uses our prayers to powerfully impact people and melt stubborn, hard hearts. Queen Mary of Scotland said she feared the prayers of John Knox more than all the armies of Scotland and she had a point. Our calling is not…
One Sunday afternoon I was driving home, having visited my parents in the West Coast. I have driven this same road numerous times, but this time was different. As I drove over a hill past Malmesbury, I saw that a Corsa bakkie and another car had just collided ahead of me. It was quite a distance from where I was; I immediately started to brake. My car at the time didn’t have an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and I couldn’t stop in time. I hit the bakkie... I remember praying in the moment that I would be okay and conscious after the accident (as I was alone in the car and the sun was setting). I phoned my parents in tears. Family friends from Malmesbury came to help me while…
