Art created by Jasleen Kaur, which celebrates her Scottish-Sikh heritage, has won this year’s Turner Prize. The Turner Prize is an important art award given to a British artist.
Born in Glasgow, Kaur said, “I see myself as being somewhere in between British, Indian, British-Asian, Glaswegian, Punjabi and something else entirely new.” In her art, she uses everyday objects to create sculptures and images that are designed to tell stories about identity. Her Turner Prize-winning work features an old red car draped in a giant doily (lacy material used on tables for decoration).
