Nameplates from Great Western Railway’s short-lived ‘Castle’ class High Speed Trains fetched a total of £21,700 at March’s sale by GW Railwayana Auctions.
A nameplate from 43009 Nunney Castle topped the list, being sold for a hammer price of £5,100.
The other four nameplates were Chepstow Castle (power car 43170, £4,000), Raglan Castle (43171, £4,300), Acton Castle (43027, £4,200), and Dunster Castle (43122, £4,100).
Other notable sales at the auction included nameplates from 58039 Rugeley Power Station (£4,200), 60044 Ailsa Craig (£3,400), 59201 Vale of York (£3,800), and 50049 Defiance (£3,200, with the nameplate only carried in preservation).…
