FOR 40 years, the Naidu home in Phoenix has been a hub for Christmas Day celebrations but this year the tradition ended.
Part of their home in Northcroft was destroyed in a fire last Wednesday.
Perumal Naidu, 75, a retired carpenter, and his wife, Dhanum, 74, a retired hairdresser, lived in the two-storey home for four decades. It had a lounge, kitchen and a toilet on the first floor and three bedrooms, a bathroom and a toilet above this.
The pensioners shared their home with their 45-year-old son, Kevin. He is unemployed due to a physical disability.
Krishna Govender, Naidu’s son-in-law, said the fire began after load shedding at 10pm.
