Top Old Glory photographer Simon Colbeck caught this amazing scene at Beamish on 6 April of the Lawson family from Gillingham, Dorset, 1911 Marshall single-cylinder 8hp GP engine No. 55924. The engine was new to Alfred Shaw of Townsville, Queensland, Australia, where it spent its working life in the central highlands area known today as Gemfields which features rich sapphire deposits. After coming back to the UK in 2000 in rough order, it passed through several owners, before receiving a complete seven-year restoration including a new boiler and more and was a regular at the GDSF in later years.…
