First things first, what made the two of you decide to launch FIGO Fabrics? After already working with our parent company Northcott for several years, we’ve always been eager to explore designs and trends that appeal to us personally. We believe in the importance of craft and have always wanted to contribute to a creative community where we can inspire and be inspired ourselves. It’s a question I hear asked time and time again: how did you choose those colours for your quilt? For some the use of colour is innate, for many it’s a rather elusive subject. Luckily for the latter, with some basic theory and a few tips and tricks you can master all sorts of colour combinations for your next project. The most powerful tool in one’s understanding of colour is undoubtedly the colour wheel. Our perception of colour first came to us via Sir Isaac Newton, and since his first illustrations there have been many iterations of the wheel – each with their own approach to colour. USING YOUR TEMPLATES 1 Cut two shapes from Template A, and one shape from Template B. If making many blocks, it's easiest to cut 6½in wide strips first, and then subcut your template pieces, fitting them together to avoid fabric wastage (Figs 1 and 2). If you struggle with curves you may want to cut the Template A pieces from 7in squares, so there's an extra ½in beyond the straight edges. You can trim these down after sewing. 2 Use the templates as a guide to mark the dots on your fabric pieces.
