Blue seems to be having a serious moment in the quilting world! Cobalt, navy, sky blue…no matter the shade, blue quilts are everywhere. As the release of indigo-inspired collections such as Cotton+Steel’s Bluebird and Alison Glass’ Handcrafted Indigos become increasingly popular, it makes sense that we’re feeling a bit blue! HISTORY Throughout history, indigo quilts have been very popular. This was primarily due to the availability of indigo plants to use in dyeing, as well as the colourfastness of indigo dyes when used to dye cotton fabrics.
