BT, EE, Plusnet, Three and Vodafone broadband customers will be hit with price increases of 7.9 per cent from the beginning of April.
The figure was confirmed following the release of December’s Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rate of inflation, which was four per cent.
All five providers currently calculate their price rises by adding 3.9 per cent to CPI inflation, making 7.9 per cent for 2024 (see box below).
Other companies add smaller amounts to the rate of inflation. Shell Energy for example adds two per cent, meaning its prices will rise by six per cent.
TalkTalk, meanwhile, adds 3.7 per cent, so its prices will rise by 7.7 per cent.
