We arrived in Devizes just after Storm Eunice – we’d experienced Storm Dudley two days before and that had brought high winds and torrential rain so we called the site, just 20 miles from home, and booked an extra night to pitch up before the next storm came in. We didn’t want to be towing at a time when up to 90mph winds were expected. In our area we didn’t have such high winds, thank goodness. This is a site we’ve been to before and we love it. There are times when it is easy to forget the simple pleasures of touring but sitting with my wife Jane in our ‘van and playing Uno with our friends, Lyn and Martin, we are presented with a chance to remind ourselves. It is twilight and, from our site on top of the hill above Tenby, we have a great view of a ‘blood moon’ as it rears its face above the horizon. Simultaneously, the lights of the town spring to life, seemingly as one and the lighthouse on Caldey Island blinks three times. There are many reasons for wanting to go abroad: the change in culture; the food and drink; the foreign language; the unusual instruments; the local carvings or blanket making; the weather. All these and more can be our reason.
