IN RESPONSE to the story “Whoonga addicts rule” (POST, August 7-11), about Whoonga drug users in Umzinto who are extorting businesses in the area.
The ANC, as a governing party, regards crime as a priority. In this regard, as new members of the executive council, we have undertaken to work in an integrated fashion involving all government departments to fight crime.
In particular, I have brought the matter to the attention of Sipho Hlomuka, the MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, and Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner. They will definitely pay more attention to this matter, as a matter of urgency.
Importantly, we are encouraged by the sterling work of all law enforcement agencies, especially officers attached to the Organised Crime Investigation and Narcotics Unit, for…
