There are mosquitos all over the place, and they’re all annoying, but certain species carry diseases that can be very unpleasant for humans. The anopheles mosquito carries malaria, and others carry dengue, including the Asian tiger mosquito, which has been found in several European countries including Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain.

Lots of people - myself included - get bitten every time they travel to Europe, but we don’t all end up with dengue fever so just because you’ve been bitten, doesn’t mean you need to panic, but we need to be aware of the risk.
