Chatting to my manager at work, I furrowed my brow and peered around. ‘What’s that smell?’ I asked him.
‘What do you mean?’ he said.
‘It’s like burnt toast,’ I replied.
But he couldn’t smell it. And there was nothing burning nearby.
It was June 2017, and I had a strong sense of deja vu, too. I was certain this moment had happened before.
And, over the next few weeks, I experienced exactly the same sensations.
In July, as I chatted away to a colleague at my admin job, she looked concerned.
‘You’re mumbling. Are you OK?’ she asked.
‘I don’t know what’s happening. I’m feeling so tired, too,’ I said.
