We travel back to pre-400 A.D. to explore the origin of one of the most magical and least known spirits around, Mezcal. Born in Mexico, it has, since its birth, been touched by the hands of the gods, or more specifically, by the mother of them all, the goddess Mayahuel, represented in ancestral form inside an agave plant (Admirable, in Greek), the raw material required for the production of this type of spirit.
It must be said that Mezcal, as such, would not be born until the 16th century when the Spaniards began distilling the Pulque, the fermented agave, a magical and primitive brew deeply rooted in Pre-Colombian Mexican culture.
