To help raise awareness about the importance of prevention, detection, and equal access to care, designer Stella McCartney has created a limitededition Ophelia Whistling lingerie set to celebrate what she calls “femininity in the face of severity,” along with a corresponding ad campaign featuring Grammy Award– winning singer Alicia Keys. “I think your jewelry is the 1980s,” the ever-astute Andy Warhol told Nicola Bulgari in Interview magazine. “Everybody’s trying to copy this look.” As the decade dawned, the evolving features of the brand had crystallized into a signature style typified by volume, strong lines, stylized motifs, and ancient Roman references. Class was going mass, and the house was at the ready, creating unabashedly modern pieces that were meant to be worn. Since 1884, the Italian luxury jeweler Bulgari has been in the right place at the right time, never far from the center of the action. For much of the 20th century, that place was 10 Via dei Condotti in Rome, where vacationing American aristocrats like Barbara Hutton first stumbled upon its wares in the 1930s, sending word home to magazines like Harper’s Bazaar about the wonders of the Bulgari workshop. In 2015, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and had a double mastectomy and reconstruction. This piece isn’t about that. It’s about after that. The aftermath. The P.S.
