Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the suspect was arrested after the police received a tip-off. “The Kimberley K9 unit, together with the Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime detectives, busted the suspect on February 9, 2022, after police members acted promptly subsequent to receiving a tip-off regarding a man who was in possession of a firearm at Eileen Court in Roodepan, Kimberley,” said Tawana. “Police obtained a search warrant to search the suspect’s residence. During the search, a firearm was found hidden inside the suspect’s home. The suspect was charged with the illegal possession of a firearm.”…

The groundbreaking judgment for children’s rights was made by the high court in Johannesburg. Under the ruling, the Mediation in Certain Divorce Matters Act of 1987 is unconstitutional. This act relates to the process of approaching the Office of the Family Advocate in family disputes involving children. In most matters involving children the courts will require a report from the Family Advocate to ascertain what is in the best interest of the children, before the court makes a ruling that affects the children. Minister Nxesi announced that the NMW for each ordinary hour worked had been increased from R21.69 to R23.19 for the year 2022 and that this would be effected from March 1. The increase also includes domestic workers. Emergency support team security personnel were stationed at Kimberley Correctional Centre yesterday to prevent the suspended officials from “trespassing” on the Kimberley Correctional Centre and Tswelopele Correctional Centre grounds, where the police were apparently also called in to intervene. The suspension letters were issued after the warders continued to report for duty at Kimberley Correctional Centre after they were transferred to Tswelopele Correctional Centre.
