The too-short return of Réal Andrews’ Taggert to GENERAL HOSPITAL was great, if somewhat frustrating, soap opera. A Mob storyline needs consequences to feel real, and that means at least one character has to bite the bullet. GH brilliantly brought Taggert back to the fold, had him form something of an uneasy alliance with Sonny, revealed that he is Trina’s dad… and then killed the guy! Viewers were heartbroken and, understandably, a bit upset at having invested (and in many cases re-invested) in the character, only to have him taken away from them. No wonder so many are hoping that despite what we saw play out on screen, the ragtag team of Renault’s enemies worked together to fake Taggert’s death in much the same way locals came together to steal…

The introduction of Trina’s mom proved that the current scribes know how to smoothly fold a new character into the canvas. Immediately, Portia was connected to two characters we know and love (Trina and Liz) as well as the hospital… and it doesn’t hurt that she’s well-played by Brooke Kerr (Whitney, PASSIONS). • Anybody else baffled by Molly’s sudden decision that she doesn’t want to marry… ever? Molly has long been the resident romantic among the Davis girls, so her change of heart came out of nowhere. • People on soaps routinely get involved with their coworkers, so it was a nice touch of modern realism that Jax and Nina had to address their budding relationship with Crimson’s HR department. For a brief moment when Nick opened Dark Horse, it looked like he would become a major force in the business world. However, that storyline vanished when he jumped into philanthropic causes with the New Hope Foundation. “For some reason, [the powers that be] do not like seeing me in a business capacity,” Morrow says. “They sometimes flirt with the idea, then take it away. I’m like, ‘Am I doing something wrong?’ I wish Nick were more involved in the family business, but on the other hand, what I do love about the character is that he does things on his own terms.”…

GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) played close to 40 shows during last year’s Stone Cold And The Jackal Tour, and by November, they’d found their groove. “We both vividly remember coming off stage in Indianapolis and knowing it was just the best show,” says Burton. “The audience was laughing the whole time. The thing is, while Carly, Michael and Willow fumed and threw insults, Nelle had an answer for everything — and proved once again why she’s such a worthy adversary. Continuing to paint herself the victim of Brad’s scheme, Nelle was quick to point out that Michael’s family was “a clear and present threat” to her son’s safety. And that is most definitely the case recently. The things we look for in a good soap — romance, family drama, excitement — are being delivered on a (near) daily basis. Q. What happened to Epiphany’s son on GENERAL HOSPITAL? Wasn’t he Sonny’s tech guy before Brick? Marla Storleyvia E-mail A. Epiphany’s son, Stan, did indeed work for Sonny and Jason, but technically, he was replaced by Spinelli long before Brick showed up. The two techies butted heads for a bit over who was better for Sonny’s business, but eventually Stan left town. Epiphany never approved of her son’s Mob life and, when he was killed off-screen in Florida, she assumed the Corinthos family was behind his death. But it turned out he’d fallen in with Jerry Jacks, who’d ordered the hit when he didn’t need the tech whiz anymore. We never saw Stan’s body, but his ashes were sent to Epiphany — causing a heart attack, which she thankfully survived!…

Quinn certainly isn’t the only calculating character on B&B, but when it comes to her husband’s duplicitous grandson, Thomas, Sofer suggests that her alter ego has a measured wariness when it comes to getting too tangled up with him. “Quinn thinks he’s crazy — and not ‘crazy’ like she is. She thinks there’s something wrong there,” says the actress.
