First, let me say this: Hello! Second, as a fellow friendly runner, I can tell you that this question has vexed me for ages. I have thought about it a lot. Hereās where Iāve landed: On first encountering a runner, a friendly acknowledgment (wave, nod, āHi,ā etc.) is in order. On the second pass, the proper response is a fleeting glance and tight smile. A self-conscious āHi again! Ha ha!ā is permitted at this point, but not mandatory. For third sightings and beyond, no greeting, or even eye contact, is required. both parties, by then, know that further greetings would just beā¦
