Allow your students to work in teams of two or three to write and illustrate a children's book. Once published, either in printed format or as an e-book, work with local elementary schools in your district to provide time for your GATE class to read their books to younger students. Another option for printed books would be to place them at local doctors/dentists’ offices in waiting rooms for people in the community to enjoy. Optional Logic Grid Practice Name The grid provides a worksheet for sorting information. Every square represents what is true or not true. By eliminating possibilites, also know as DEDUCTIVE Logic, one is finally left with the only choice per row or column. The one square left will be the correct answer. There are plenty of Ted Talk videos of students performing their poetry, and that's what slam poetry is all about. Allow your students to watch a few videos of slam poets delivering their poetry, and then have your students try some of their own. They can begin with well known poems and figure out a way to perform those before writing their own poetry to slam. Allow your students to use a fairytale as a springboard to write their own dramatic production. Your students will take an original fairytale and rewrite it with a modern twist or with their own creative changes. Students will become playwrights, producers, and actors. Put your students into small collaborative groups and let each group choose a fairy tale. Require each group to come up with an original skit or play based on the fairy tale but changed in a way of their own choosing. Set a date for the skits to be performed for the class.
