On 19 October, thieves stole items of jewellery from the Louvre, a museum in Paris. The robbery took place at around 9.30am, when the thieves used a mechanical ladder to get into the museum’s Apollo Gallery through a window. Inside, they stole items from two glass display cases.
In total, eight pieces of jewellery from the French crown jewels were taken. They included a tiara and brooch that once belonged to Empress Eugénie, an emerald necklace and pair of earrings owned by Empress Marie-Louise, and a tiara, necklace and single earring from a sapphire set that was worn by Queen Marie-Amélie.
However, the thieves didn’t take all the valuables in the gallery. Among the items they left was the Regent diamond, which is thought to be worth more than £45…
