Having lived through apartheid and experienced the oppressions of our people, I had high hopes that when Nelson Mandela was elected things were going to change. Govender, a former English and history teacher, said he was disturbed when he saw most schools in the province did not have libraries or that the libraries were poorly stocked. THE Council of Muslim Theologians in KwaZulu-Natal has condemned the actions of a 43-year-old mosque worker who allegedly sexually assaulted two children. The alleged assault took place in the toilets of the Mount Vernon Musallah in Verulam on Friday. Moulana Abdullah Khan, the spokesperson for Jamiatul Ulama KZN, said such an incident especially during the holy month of Ramadaan, was abhorrent and unacceptable. “This should be a time of reflection, prayer and fasting. JACE Govender has rescued hundreds of people stranded in their homes and vehicles with his rubber duck and a jet ski during the floods. But he said he was no hero. In his youth, Govender spent most of his time at Isipingo Beach, which was a few kilometres from his home.
