BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO: THE DISAPPEARING NINE-PATCH The disappearing nine-patch is a great beginner-friendly block. It's wonderfully simple, yet the resulting pattern is really impressive, so it's no wonder that it's a firm favourite of many quilters! It works well with solid fabrics or patterned prints and is charm pack friendly too. The basic construction involves sewing a simple nine-patch, cutting it into quarters, swapping two opposite corners and then re-sewing. BLOCK CONSTRUCTION AND FABRIC SELECTION 1 The disappearing nine-patch block is made by sewing nine starter squares together. The nine-patch is then cut into quarters, as demonstrated in Fig 1. How did you first get into quilting? A few years ago, I saw some of the people I was following on Instagram make quilts. In particular, Elise Blaha Cripe (@elisejoy) made it look so simple and fun.
