I was 35 and living at the Chateau Marmont while we filmed American Gigolo. I lived in New York, but when I was in L.A., it was always the Chateau. It was a great place. ne drawback of a 500-year-old cottage with low-beamed ceilings is that people—especially guests—smack their heads a lot. Visitors leave with golf ball–size lumps on their foreheads, and more than once I've had to scrape blood and bits of scalp from the doorjambs. Richards, Jagger, and Fraser were arrested on drug-related charges. The trial riveted England and became a flash point for the confrontation between establishment principles and those of the rising youth culture.
