Bianca Spender is poring over a copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with her right-hand woman, Lydia Dobson, when I walk into her Sydney studio on a steamy day in late spring. To my left are racks of samples, mostly from her A/W 2017 collection, and to my right a wall containing what has to be one of the most expansive moodboards I’ve ever seen. Lewis Carroll’s work features here, too — in this case, his lesser-known photographs of Victorian waifs.
