ELLIOTT BALL THE CATFISH of the Corydoras genus are popular fish for a multitude of reasons. Some hobbyists keep them for their diverse, often cryptic patterns and their sometimes muted, sometimes boosted colours. Others like that they’re a fish with personality and can be bred in domestic aquaria, while some appreciate their utility in assisting with the tank husbandry, keeping the sand substrate turned over with their relentless, snuffling antics.
Throughout my fishkeeping history, and just like with many hobbyists, Corydoras have been a permanent fixture, present in any of my tanks that could house them.
But I’d never really kept anything extraordinarily rare. At least, not up until recently, that is.
