IT’S been less than three years since BYD set out its stall in the UK with the Atto 3. We tested that car against the Kia Niro, and it came away with a victory. Since then, the Chinese maker has gone on to expand its line-up to eight models, including all-electric and plug-in hybrid choices. The Atto 2 is based on the same electric running gear as the Atto 3 and Dolphin, and it slots into the range between those models, in terms of both size and price. “WHAT we’re working on now is really the next big thing for us: the new 208,” Peugeot brand CEO Alain Favey told Auto Express in an exclusive interview. He said the recent Polygon concept – a small hatchback which gives big hints to the 208’s design and technology – fired the starting gun on the new hatch’s introduction, with an unveiling likely at October’s Paris Motor Show. “ENOUGH is enough” – that’s the response to new data from the House of Commons Library, which reveals that three-quarters of car theft cases go unsolved in England and Wales. Commissioned by the Liberal Democrats, the figures show that of the almost 122,000 cases of car theft reported in England and Wales between April 2024 and March 2025, as many as 92,958 resulted in a suspect failing to be identified. Only just over two per cent of cases (2,831) resulted in a suspect being charged or summonsed, with the remainder unsolved due to problems such as insufficient evidence or an incomplete investigation. PRICING for the new A390 – the second pure-electric car from Alpine – has just been announced. Three versions will be on sale very soon with first customer deliveries expected by spring. Kicking off the range is the £61,390 GT, followed by the £65,390 Premiere Edition and the flagship £69,390 GTS. This makes the Alpine A390 far cheaper than its closest competitor, the Porsche Macan Electric. The A390 is a little more expensive than the BMW iX3 and the new electric Mercedes GLC, but in true Alpine fashion, it’s claimed to be more driver-focused than its rivals. THE medium-sized electric van market is filled with both well established names such as the Ford E-Transit Custom, and newcomers like the Farizon SV. This means the new Kia PV5 Cargo is a bit of an oddity; it’s a newcomer, but from a brand that’s very well known in the car world. For now, the PV5 Cargo is available exclusively as a panel van, but Kia plans to bring in a number of variants including a crew and chassis cab model. There’s also the PV5 Passenger, which is an MPV in a similar mould to Ford’s Transit-based Tourneo. WHEN it comes to assessing a family car, one thing is paramount: practicality. And I’m delighted to say that the Volvo EX30 makes us a very happy family. But practicality is about more than just space. Because, truth is, with just myself, my wife and our 11-year-old daughter to worry about, we don’t need a huge amount of room. A 200million Euro (£176m) investment in a state-of-the-art research and development centre should make Hyundai Group cars even better, and more suited to European drivers, according to the man heading up the entire project. THE Vauxhall Frontera is a direct replacement for the Vauxhall Crossland, a car so forgettable that you’d be forgiven for not even remembering what it looks like. You’re more likely to recognise the Frontera name from Vauxhall’s nineties SUV. That car was a rebadged Isuzu, and this new version is also a joint production, because it’s largely identical to the Mk2 Citroen C3 Aircross. The new Frontera only comes with front-wheel drive, but there are hybrid petrol and all-electric powertrains to choose from.
