Canadian President Mark Carney spoke at Davos last week. He opened his speech by saying, “Today I will talk about a rupture in the world order, the end of a pleasant fiction and the beginning of a harsh reality, where geopolitics, where the large, main power, geopolitics, is submitted to no limits, no constraints.” Initially, I applauded Carney for his bold speech. However, as I pondered it, I realised how downright insulting it was.
Dear Mr Carney, the world ruptured a long time ago under decades of colonialisation, oppression, gross inequality and exploitation. Did you not see it? Did you not see a bombed Libya? Did you not see the politically exploited humans and environments of the world? The dead children in Vietnam and in Hiroshima? The genocides? The wars…
