Over the past 12 years, SHIN architects have developed an interest in spaces for infants, children, and youth across various public projects, such as playgrounds, nurseries, elementary school classrooms, and cultural facilities for youth. Their concerns for the spaces in which our future generations will grow and become independent have led to experiments with space concerning children’s experiences of the relationships between people, spaces, nature, and cities. The flexibility and variation between materials, details, spatial structures, and colours are all clear-cut solutions discovered within the limitations of public architecture. Here, we take a look at SHIN architects’ journey, a practice that is struggling to establish high-quality public architecture in those places that are shunned by capital.
