As always our wonderful contributors have worked hard to bring you a variety of designs incorporating a range of techniques and covering a range of themes! We kick off the edition with a workshop from Lesley Shore who shares her advice on achieving perfect picot cutting. Perga Colours Exclusive, £25.94 pergamano.com Perga Colours Exclusive (PCE) are markers with a water based ink. The ink can be applied to the parchment paper with or without a brush. The perga colours exclusive give you the opportunity to create beautiful projects using a relatively simple technique. Each PCE has 2 different tips: a thick and a thinner tip which makes it even easier to apply colour. Trace Trace the outlines and the sentiment in white pencil or using a mapping pen and white ink. Trace the bee using a black fine liner or a mapping pen and black ink. Use black to trace the sections in the flower head. Remove any visible pencil lines with an eraser. Colour Using yellow plus a small amount of yellow ochre and black oil-based blendable pencils, colour the head, body and legs of the bee. Use short flicking strokes for the body to look a little furry and work one shade slightly into the other. You will need Your basic tool kit plus: PCA Large, Medium and Micro Sun embossing tools Pergamano Plus Trace • Secure your plain parchment paper to the pattern and with your white pencil or mapping pen trace all the elements on the pattern. Emboss With a large and small ball tools emboss the outlines. With a sun tool emboss as shown in the pattern. With an extra small ball tool emboss within your semi-square perforations in the outline. Remove any visible pencil lines with an eraser. Perforate • With your 2-needle and semi-square perforating tools, perforate as shown on the pattern. Cut • Cut all perforations with scissors or snips as shown on the pattern. Perforate Place a piece of A4…

Trace Place a piece of plain parchment paper over the pattern and secure in place. With a white pencil or white ink and mapping pen, trace the 3D flowers, square border, arch and water. With black fine liner pen, trace the rest of the image. Colour Working on the back of your work, with Polychromo pencils, colour as follows and blend with Dorso Oil. Colour the flower petals and watering can with dark cadmium orange. Colour the leaves with earth green yellowish (Step 1). Emboss With a 1mm embossing tool, emboss the outlines of the 3D flowers. With relevant sized embossing tools, shadow emboss the flower petals, working from the centres outwards, the leaves from the top downwards and the watering can according to the image With the Pergamano wheel…

To start Rub the reverse of plain parchment with a tumble dryer sheet. Attach the parchment over the pattern and secure in place with low-tack tape. Trace With a white pencil, or ink and mapping pen, trace the line around the outside of the pattern. With a sepia pen trace the ornamental frame around the central picture. With the white pencil again trace all the fruit. Emboss Turn the parchment to work on the reverse. With your smallest ball tool emboss all the white lines. Colouring Petals: Secure a piece of plain parchment on to the pattern. Work on the sweetpea image as follows – do not trace the pattern first: Using white and a small circular motion place a base layer on all flower heads and buds. Using cream and a small circular motion place a base layer on all leaves, stems and calyx (step 1). Using rose carmine – again small circular motions but ensuring that the top edge of each petal is sharp colour as in step 2. You will need Your basic tool kit plus: Pergamano Plus JUDITH’S TOP TIP To create a fine line, hold your pen almost upright so only the tip of the nib is touching the parchment. To avoid blots, always clean out your nib before dipping back into the ink. Try to leave your work to rest for a day before going back to lightly emboss again. Gridwork Cut a piece of parchment to measure 18x24cm. Rub the back of the parchment with a tumble dryer sheet and attach to the bold diagonal grid using low-tack tape Create the grid border first. Trace Trace the outer edges, the heart shapes and the sentiments in white using a pencil or mapping pen and white ink. There is no need to trace the circles. Remove any visible pencil lines with an eraser Shallow perforate • Using a thin mat beneath the work, perforate around the inside of each circle with a mini semi-circle tool. Work with your parchment still attached to the pattern to add in the position of the tool. (NB if you have a PCA mini-scallop tool, this will fit, but remember it is a cutting tool and its use will result in 4 circular apertures. Trace Using a blue pen, trace the two outer squares and the parts of circles between the writing. Using a white pencil trace the border between the sea and sky. Using a black pen, trace everything else (Step 1).
