In 2009, the World Health Organisation placed New Zealand third in the world for lifetime prevalence of suffering from an anxiety disorder, and it’s now estimated that one in four people suffers from anxiety. Perhaps even more concerning are the figures from the Mental Health Foundation that show that in 2013, almost half a million Kiwis were prescribed medication for anxiety and depression – an increase of more than 20% over five years.
