A new mental health organisation has been formed in Wales with the aim of training bikers to provide support within their communities, while also offering monthly ‘chat and check in’ style meet-ups for bikers to gather and have a natter. Despite it only having been up and running for six weeks, founder, Paul Sims says he hopes Make Your Mark will soon be able to offer accredited Mental Health First Aid qualifications and that the group is already gaining widespread support. The former Mental Health Motorbike Regional Coordinator says the latest project intends to raise money for food banks, homeless shelters and community organisations that support mental health through fundraising activities. South Yorkshire Police Motorcycle and Rural Crime Team have once again been busy ridding their patch of stolen and nuisance motorcycles – including a scooter believed to have been taken from York in February last year. The dedicated team spotted the machine on Wednesday, May 8 when officers were out on patrol. Once officers had caught up, the bike was dumped, with the rider found in a nearby garden, and the passenger apprehended at the scene. A hammer was also discovered which had dropped out from under the seat.…

Thousands of riders around the world donned their finest threads to take part in this year’s annual Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR), raising more than £5.5 million for men’s mental health and prostate cancer charities. Roughly 111,000 riders from 958 cities globally participated in the event on May 19, which saw them take to the streets aboard retro styled and classic bikes, with funds raised supporting Movember – the event’s main charity since 2016. Q 'Lawyers say I can’t claim’ I had an accient when a car entering a roundabout I was on did not stop and knocked me off my bike. The car driver admitted the crash was his fault. I was injured and my orthopaedic surgeon recommended a series of physiotherapy sessions. I had to go to these first thing in the morning, which required me to take time off work for which I was not paid. 'Old-school or refined?' The KTM is the original gangster of the supermoto world and brings that old-school, original vibe to the road. It offers huge amounts of torque from its LC4 motor, it’s happier being sideways than it is being in a straight line and it has a chassis that is just gagging to be absolutely razzed to the limit, egged on by an electronics package which is about as basic as they come. Then there’s the Ducati, which feels more refined in nearly every way. The engine is far smoother, the chassis a little more road bike-esque in its set-up and it feels a little more nimble, which will be a blessing for road riders looking to make the transition or have their first taste of supermoto. 'Pricey but good value' At £23,495 the CVO Pan Am is £7500 more than the standard model, but tot up the cost of all the extras and it starts to look like decent value. The luggage alone is worth over £2300, then there’s the ’shifter, protection parts, trick suspension, spoked wheels and paint job (to name but a few), which when listed separately far exceed the difference. It’s capable of covering big distances, and has the performance, handling and character to generate grins aplenty along the way. ‘Oil could have sprayed out over the back wheel’ While many keep their bikes tucked safely away in dry storage, others call upon their machines as a tool, a workhorse used to contest the darkest depths of winter and the corrosive weather that accompanies it. With his MotoGP career on the bubble Raul Fernandez delivered a breakthrough performance in Barcelona. The timing is crucial as the rider market will be mostly complete by the Dutch TT at the end of June. It was not lost on Fernandez, who declared after his sixth place: “I needed that!” The result came 24 hours after he’d squandered a chance for a maiden win when he crashed his Trackhouse Aprilia out of the lead of the Sprint. After a difficult start to TT 2024 where severe weather and wind destroyed the paddock and team awnings, proceedings got under way on Monday afternoon. Starting over four hours later than planned due to overnight rain, qualifying kicked off just as MCN went to press on Monday evening. The main story lines ahead of this year’s TT surround the fitness of both Peter Hickman and Michael Dunlop. Between them they won all eight solo races in 2023 – taking four a piece, but both arrive on the Isle of Man nursing injuries. I’ve done a lot of MCN columns before, but I don’t think we’ve ever done one in the holding area of the TT after jumping off from doing two laps on the Superbike! I’m a bit rabbit in the headlights at the minute, but we’re certainly keeping it real! I’m a bit of a glutton for punishment because I go out on my Superbike straight away. Motorcyclists riding in Spain could soon be permitted to use the hard shoulder at times of heavy traffic, with changes to the Spanish Highway Code expected to come into force early next year. While the practice is currently illegal and could land you a €200 fine, the Direccion General de Traffic (DGT) are considering implementing changes which would open up the congestionbusting potential of the emergency lane to motorcycle and scooter riders, but only when motorway traffic is at a standstill. If the plans go ahead as expected, motorcyclists using the lanes will be limited to a maximum speed of just 30kph (18mph) and must give way to cyclists, emergency vehicles and agricultural machines. With Kawasaki now banging the supercharger drum, it is easy to forget about this simply fantastic machine that proves without doubt that while forced induction is all very well and good for headline power figures, there really is no replacement for displacement. 'Pricey for a newcomer' Zeeho may be backed by KTM owners Pierer Mobility Group, but they are still a relatively unknown concern in the UK, with minimal dealer coverage. As such, you really have to want one to be willing to shell out the £4699 – not because it’s a bad bike, but because there are cheaper options from more established brands. These include Honda’s PCX125, which might still run on old fashioned petrol, but can return a tested 100.3mpg. Giving the switchgear a bit of attention like we have done here is the sort of task that just needs to be done at a slow pace, especially when you’re stripping the little switches down to their component parts. You can’t rush into it or else there will be tiny screws and springs everywhere, and believe me, you won’t remember where all the little bits go when it’s cleaned and ready to be rebuilt! In most cases there is very little info on how to take apart switchgear, even in a workshop manual. So take your time and be methodical with the parts as you lay them out during disassembly – and taking pictures with your smartphone is a really good idea. Finland’s Verge Motorcycles are moving into the UK market with their striking range of electrics featuring a hub-less back end where the rear wheel itself forms part of the motor. Verge are claiming a range of up to 233 miles and prices range from £26,900 to £44,900 depending on the precise model and spec.
