BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO: THE DISAPPEARING NINE-PATCH The disappearing nine-patch is a great beginner-friendly block. It's wonderfully simple, yet the resulting pattern is really impressive, so it's no wonder that it's a firm favourite of many quilters! It works well with solid fabrics or patterned prints and is charm pack friendly too. The basic construction involves sewing a simple nine-patch, cutting it into quarters, swapping two opposite corners and then re-sewing. BLOCK CONSTRUCTION AND FABRIC SELECTION 1 The disappearing nine-patch block is made by sewing nine starter squares together. The nine-patch is then cut into quarters, as demonstrated in Fig 1. After this, two diagonally opposite quarters are then swapped, before the units are then sewn back together in order to make one block, as shown in Fig 2. 2 When…

How did you first get into quilting? A few years ago, I saw some of the people I was following on Instagram make quilts. In particular, Elise Blaha Cripe (@elisejoy) made it look so simple and fun. So, I decided I wanted to make one for my little baby. I googled a tutorial and immediately got to cutting fabric. I haven’t looked back since! What’s your all-time favourite quilt pattern? By now you’ve probably heard me say how awesome the quilting community is. But guess what? I’m not going to stop telling you! Because it’s true. Quilty peeps are the best! And nothing is more fun than finding other quilters to sew along with, chat about quilts with and inspire one another to make all the things.
