AN UNEMPLOYED accused, who allegedly assaulted, bound a 16-year-old girl’s hands and feet, submerged her head in drain water and raped her, will reappear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court next month after he was denied bail. The accused, Shadrack Kingsley, was arrested on November 22, 2022, and previously abandoned his right to apply for bail. THE ROODEPAN police are investigating the shooting deaths of a police couple after the husband and wife were involved in an apparent domestic dispute on Wednesday evening. According to the police, the husband reportedly shot and killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself. Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said that preliminary reports indicate that the couple were involved in a domestic dispute at their place of residence in Lerato Park on February 7, at about 11pm. The couple were identified as Sergeant Hendrik Daniels, attached to the Galeshewe Magistrate's Court, and his wife Constable Patricia Daniels, from the Barkly West police station. “The 42-year-old husband allegedly fired several shots into a vehicle that his 45-year-old wife was in. THE HAWKS and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) have been requested to investigate the alleged misuse of the mayoral vehicle and irregular expenditure at Kgatelopele Municipality. According to complaints that were lodged this week by the chairperson of the municipal public accounts committee (MPAC), Sylvester Vukeya, “extravagant amounts” were approved for frivolous trips, including a school choir and dance competition, which held no benefit or relevance to the municipality. FORMER ANC provincial chairperson John Block, who is facing a R1.5 million defamation suit, apparently does not have the funds to pay the claim instituted by retired Northern Cape High Court judge president Frans Kgomo. The lawsuit that was made against Block, his former legal representative, the late Dali Mjila, and another attorney, Nano Matlala, was reduced from an initial amount of R2.5 million. During closing arguments in the Northern Cape High Court this week, Block’s legal representative, Lulama Lobi, advised that his client was “only surviving” financially. “It is unfair to expect Block to pay this amount. The accused include former ANC provincial chairperson John Block, who served as the MEC for Transport, Roads and Public Works at the time when Babereki Consulting Engineers was awarded the tender in 2003. His co-accused, the former HOD for Transport, Roads and Public Works, Patience Mokhali, and the director of Babereki Consulting Engineers CC, Tshegolekae Motaung, also appeared in court yesterday.
