CITY residents have labelled the recent request by Sol Plaatje Municipality to community members who own trucks and bakkies to assist in the distribution of water as a fruitless and wasteful exercise. WITH determination and resilience inside as well as outside the classroom, a local robotics team made up of six learners from Kimberley Technical High School has shown that they not only have the academic skills to make it to the National Robotics Competition but also that financial challenges will not stop them. The KTHS team is one of five teams that made it through to represent the Northern Cape at the national competition, to be held at Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg, after they were victorious at the recent For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition that took place in Carnarvon. THE KIMBERLEY police have requested the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a man who was found hanging from a tree in Barkly Road in Bloemanda on November 27. Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said a post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death and whether any foul play was involved in the matter. “The deceased was wearing a blue and grey coloured overall, with dark spectacles. THE SMALL Northern Cape town of Ritchie crowned 16-year-old Xoliswa Mokwang as its first “Face of Ritchie” pageant ambassador. The event on November 25 was organised by Gordon Taweni with the aim of empowering the young people of Ritchie and restoring their hope. Born in Ritchie, Taweni is a professional model, author, motivational speaker, talent scout and life coach who relocated to Johannesburg.
