FAMILY and loved ones of patients who were admitted to Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital in Kimberley were yesterday prohibited from visiting family members at the hospital due to the water shutdown. The water will be off until August 14. Families were shocked when they were denied access to the hospital to see their ailing family members due to the water shutdown. JUDGMENT on the procurement of the Hoffe Park JP Hugo hostels for nursing accommodation is expected to be handed down in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court next week. Rental leases to the value of R96 million were concluded in 2010 and 2012, while students complained about the poor conditions at the hostel, including the quality of the food and the absence of warm water. The acting head of department (HOD) at the Northern Cape Department of Health, Dr Dion Theys, was charged for contravention of the Public Finance Management Act. There’s such an extravagant banquet available: load shedding, water shutdowns, violence, corruption, potholes … who could possibly decide? Ag ja … of course, but those are the common irritations. It should not be, but our country’s leadership has managed to make these service delivery and safety issues commonplace. In fact I was telling a friend the other day that what concerns me is that my generation grew up under an oppressive government where the majority of our country’s citizens suffered while a favoured minority prospered; now we live in a free country where more citizens are suffering while a smaller, elite minority are enjoying life.
