SOL PLAATJE Municipality officially handed over two new vehicles to the cleansing and sanitation department yesterday morning. The cleansing department now has one new refuse removal compactor and one extra bakkie. According to the director of community services, Khuza Bogacwi, service delivery is a challenge in the sanitation department, as they do not have enough compactors for refuse removal. “We have several refuse trucks in for repairs, and repairs can take some time. When refuse can not be collected on time, it leads to illegal dumping”. Bogacwi further added that the new compactor will assist greatly in service delivery. “This new compactor is going to Ritchie as soon as we are done here to assist them in service delivery there,” he said. London’s Metropolitan Police have opened an investigation after British Olympic great Mo Farah made stunning revelations he was illegally trafficked into Britain as a child. THE SOUTH African Revenue Service (Sars) building that is situated on the corner of Bean and Villiers streets and the old Woolworths building in the CBD that is owned by the Delta Property Fund will go on auction on July 20. The doors to the Sars building were closed due to industrial action earlier this week, where National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) and Public Servants Association (PSA) members downed tools due to a dispute over salary increases. The Sars building, which was formerly the property of Trifecta Holdings (Pty) Ltd directors, Christo Scholtz and the former ANC chairperson John Block, is believed to have a reserve price of R15 million. Orion Minerals’s share price surged nearly five percent this week Monday, after it announced excellent results from the recently completed in-fill drilling at its Prieska copper-zinc project in the Northern Cape. The shares traded at 23 cents intra-day on the JSE after the group said it had received highly encouraging initial assay results from an in-fill drilling programme designed to upgrade the existing shallow inferred resource, in the +105-level crown pillar area at its project. THE DA said it was probing the dire state of the Homevale wastewater treatment plant, which has fallen into a “state of disrepair”, following concerns raised regarding an agreement between Sol Plaatje Municipality and a private company for the upkeep and maintenance of the plant. Sol Plaatje Municipality approved a resolution in 2021 to write off R6.5 million in debts owed by Beefmaster in exchange for its assistance in repairing the ailing Homevale wastewater treatment plant. Beefmaster committed to bring its own security to the site and to clean the area.
