Welcome to RC Car Action’s (RCCA) first issue of 2023! Technically, as I write this, it’s still 2022, but as we wind the year down, I’m already looking forward to the new year and its new releases. I’m sure you are too! In this issue of RCCA, we get into the details of a large and varied selection of RC models. As you can tell from the cover, we jump into Redcat Racing’s latest lowrider, the FiftyNine. We had a lot of fun cruising and lightly modding this ready to run (RTR) lowrider. Scott takes us on the journey that created his customized mini-truck style C10: “I had seen plenty of these growing up and stumbled on a bed spinning truck on Instagram by @nikaidocustoms and was smitten! I went out and got some brass, fab’d up the scissor lift, found a Hitec rotating servo for the bed, and started experimenting! This monster of a puller was created by Joseph Kovach. Regarding how he started this custom build, Joseph tells us: “I remember back in the ’80s and ’90s seeing this truck at a puller event. I knew I just had to build it. This truck has twin inline 550 can motors linked together and is run by a Traxxas 16.8V ESC and sound kit. It’s always fun to see a replica build of a real-life vehicle. In this case, Kyle patterned his RC build off of a real-life monster truck. We’ll let Kyle tell the story of this truck in his own words: “The owner of the real Behind Bars monster truck approached me about building an RC replica of his truck. I got the chassis from Fat Cat Customz, and my friend Jake Ragusa powdercoated the chassis and links for me. Brett Crawford of CPE helped me get the rest of the parts in order to get the build finished. We are all passionate about something, and as we’re about to find out, Bruce is passionate about the vintage nitro-powered Kyosho Landjump. Of his Landjump project, Bruce says: “The Kyosho Landjump kit was released in 1980 and called the Landjump 4D. This was Kyosho’s first 4WD nitro buggy. It was equipped with the hobby’s first front one-way bearing. All four tires were the same diameter. The Landjump was one of the first mid-engine nitro cars ever made, giving the buggy excellent weight distribution and handling. As a 1/10-scale buggy racer from the ’80s and ’90s I would always drool over the Kyosho Landjump locked in the racetrack owner’s trophy case at my local track.
