Benjamin tells us this build was inspired by his 7-year-old son. They were watching vintage monster trucks on YouTube and the kid fell in love with the Michigan Ice Monster, so he decided to build something tough and reliable but with not so much power that a child couldn’t comfortably drive it. It runs the stock twin Tamiya 540L motors with a Hobbywing 880 dual motor ESC with 6-cell NiMH Venom power. Benjamin started gathering parts and building last summer so he would have it ready by Christmas. Tom’s Traxxas TRX4 shows what can be done to a nearly stock truck to dress it up and give it a unique personality. He starts with a TRX4 Defender 110 and added some GMade SR-02 wheels, a few carefully chosen handmade scale details and some custom paint. Tom painted the body on the outside surface to retain the matte finish of Tamiya’s AS-19 Intermediate Blue and AS-20 Insignia White paints. He put an extra layer of Tamiya PS Silver down before the color coats to help them stick to the slick Lexan shell. Chris’ Clod clone employs a full custom UK Monsters chassis equipped with Team Associated V2 big-bore aluminum-body shocks. It also wears a trick set of Hesse machined full billet aluminum gearboxes and axle tubes. There are also a BTA steering system and axle braces from ZRP, and the truck rolls on JConcepts Tribute wheels and JCT tires. Power comes from a Castle Creations SW3 motor system energized by a Gens Ace 2S Lipo. The body is a JConcepts Ford Raptor shell custom painted by DW Designs.
