In 2023, almost 22 million international tourists visited Paris.
In February, several steps were taken to tackle problems related to tourism. In Paris, authorities voted to regulate plastic flower displays on cafés, but café owners said tourists like them. In Bangladesh, a court took action to protect endangered Asian elephants from being exploited, partly in shows for visitors. In Nepal, people climbing Mount Everest were told to pick up their poo and take it back down.
