Thousands of people in cities and towns across the UK have taken part in protests against racism, in response to violent unrest in the UK last week. Racism is when people are treated unfairly because of their skin colour, religion, culture or nationality.
What happened?
On 7 August, people came together in cities including Brighton, Bristol, Liverpool, London and Newcastle to show their opposition to racism and support for refugees (people who have fled their countries because of wars or natural disasters). Thousands of police officers had been preparing for more far-right violence. Far-right groups have very extreme views about race, religion and immigration. Instead, people gathered across the country to stand against racism and support their communities. In Walthamstow, London, around 10,000 people came together.
