The Wigtown Book Festival, which takes place in Scotland, from 22 September to 1 October, celebrates its 25th birthday this year. Lee Randall is the guest programmer, whose job involves delivering a programme of events, including activities, readings and talks. It’s all about “tapping into ideas that are whirling around,” she tells The Week Junior. Randall has been involved with more than half of the festivals that have helped transform the small town’s fortunes.
In the 1990s, Wigtown fell on hard times, she says. The creamery, which made dairy products, and the distillery, which made alcohol, were two of the big employers to close down. Many people lost their jobs.
