There have been celebrations across India after the country successfully landed a spacecraft on the Moon for the first time in its history.
What happened?
The Chandrayaan-3 mission, which was not carrying any people, was the first spacecraft ever to land near the Moon’s south pole, which is a very cold and dark region. Chandrayaan-2, a previous mission launched by India, crashed near the south pole in 2019. The area is covered with craters and deep trenches (ditches), making it difficult to land there.
