On 6 May, more than 20 million people in the UK watched as King Charles III was crowned at Westminster Abbey in London. This was the UK’s first Coronation for 70 years, since Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953.
What happened during the ceremony?
King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived at Westminster Abbey in a horse-drawn carriage, as members of the public stood in the rain and cheered. The Archbishop of Canterbury, who is the leader of the Church of England, led the ceremony. During the service, Charles was handed symbolic items, including bracelets, a glove, an orb, rings, rods and spurs. He wore several robes, each of which had a special meaning.
