My mum, Denny, stood at the back door.
“Hun, dinner’s ready! Come inside,” she hollered.
My older brother Alan, 10, and I looked at each other and giggled.
Ten minutes passed as Mum patiently dished up our food.
Then she stormed over to the door.
“Roly John, your dinner’s getting cold,” she shouted.
With that, our dad, Roly, short for Roland, appeared looking sheepish.
“Sorry darl, time ran away from me,” he said, washing his hands.
He’d been tinkering outside in the garden. He loved being outdoors.
Taking his seat at the kitchen table, Dad eyed his home-cooked meal.
“This looks delicious,” he said, and Mum smiled with satisfaction.
