Northern incurred the most costs in its franchising project, Rail Minister Paul Maynard told Shadow Transport Secretary Andy McDonald in a Commons Written Reply on October 17.
McDonald has asked what was the cost to Government for each re-tendering exercise held for franchises in each year since 2005-06, covering long-distance and regional passenger services.
Maynard said that prior to the relaunch of the Franchising Programme in spring 2013, the costs were not individually recorded. Since then Northern cost £8.668 million, followed by East Coast (£8.429m), TransPennine Express (£7.577m), East Anglia (£7.413m) and Essex Thameside (£4.815m).
