Creating a sports car with over 1,000hp would be natural for the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini, says Mike Austin for Road & Track. “In a Corvette, even a mid-engine one, 1,064hp seems kind of crazy.” But while the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is “a lot of car… it’s not crazy. At least not in the foolish sense of the world. It is, in fact, magnificent”.
It is almost as easy to drive as the entry-level Corvette Stingray and that is largely down to the fact that Chevrolet planned the entire line-up for this, the eighth-generation Corvette, from the start, around a decade ago. So, while that means the chassis for the Stingray is a little overbuilt, no extra bracing is required for the ZR1. That “whopping” 1,064hp is delivered…
