ASPIRIN therapy to promote cardiac health among seniors with advanced cancer may actually make deadly tumors grow and lead to early death, according to a new study from an international team of researchers. “Deaths were particularly high among those on aspirin who were diagnosed with advanced solid cancers, suggesting a possible adverse effect of aspirin on the growth of cancers once they have already developed in older adults,” says senior study author Andrew Chan, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. The scientists reached their conclusion by tracking 19,114 Australian and U.S. adults aged 70 or older and U.S. Black and Hispanic participants aged 65 or older for nearly five years.
