There are very few games that we would recommend on their soundtrack alone, but Jet Set Radio is one of them. Seamlessly blending J-pop, hip-hop, funk, soul, rock and acid jazz, it’s an eclectic remix album that constantly surprises: the very first track samples Paula Abdul, Norman Cook and, erm, Hancock’s Half Hour.
Happily, there’s also a great game to go along with it. Indeed, the combination of the two is nothing short of magic: from the infectious, free-wheeling momentum of Sneakman to Flavor Flav’s joyful shout of “Rock that shit, homie!” in Rock It On, this is somehow, categorically, unmistakably music to rollerblade to. We glide, somersault, dance and grind around a cel-shaded Tokyo-to, tagging walls…
