WHILE ordinary working stiffs struggle to get a raise, doctors’ incomes jumped as much as 21 percent in the past year — with orthopedics pocketing the biggest paychecks, according to the website Medscape. Their survey of about 20,000 physicians from 30 different specialties found the overall average salary rose from $299,999 in 2018 to $313,000 in 2019. Medscape also found that from 2015 to 2019, primary care physician salaries increased 20 percent from $195,000 to $237,000, and specialist salaries increased 21.5 percent from $284,000 to $341,000. Orthopedics took the top spot at $482,000 over plastic surgery at $471,000. Next on the list were otolaryngology at $461,000, followed by cardiology at $430,000 and dermatology at $419,000.
