Think electric muscle stimulation (EMS) and your mind likely jumps to the clunky TENS machines used as pain relief. The Powerdot is an electric muscle stimulator, but is far from your regular EMS device. It uses NMES, a technology Powerdot says is for athletes with a desire to promote recovery and improve peak performance.
‘NMES stands for neuromuscular electrical stimulation, and uses electrical signals at a higher frequency than TENS to stimulate muscle fibres,’ says Powerdot’s Corey Loftus. This forces them to contract without the individual voluntarily having to do anything.
