Joa Camp will now be known as a Joa by Pilote, aligning more closely with the well-established manufacturer. Designed in the same factory, by the same engineering team, all Joa products will retain their distinct colour, designs and, most importantly, price. The newly branded vehicles are being presented at the NEC Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show, and will arrive at dealers in late May/early June. Volkswagen and camper are words that go together like fish and chips. The Transporter has been around for over 75 years and Westfalia introduced its Camping Box to turn a split-screen van into a camper as far back as 1951. Florium is the sister brand to Fleurette, the sister that got the keys to the designer wardrobe. But whereas both brands offer the same layouts in motorhomes, the Black Pearl campervans are only dressed with the Florium logo. Two layouts are available, each with familiar continental floorplans – the 59 LT (5.99m long with transverse double bed) and the 63 LJ (6.36m with single beds). Both are new to the UK market this season. A couple who transformed a builder’s van into a “tiny flat on wheels” they could use to travel across Europe with their dog has won eBay’s Van Conversion of the Year award. Cheshire couple, Charlie Ding and Rosie Wells, landed £10,000 for their creation from Amazing Spaces TV presenter, George Clarke. He headed the judging panel that chose the overall winner from a selection of category winners. Charlie and Rosie’s ’van won the Clever Camper category before picking up the overall award. Charlie and Rosie spent 18 months turning their Mercedes Sprinter into a luxury campervan, with some ingenious design features, including an electric bed that lowers from the ceiling and a wardrobe that slides into the shower section when not in use. Unfortunately, with just five of the Da Vinci 6.0 Star Wars Edition being built, short of performing a Jedi mind trick, winning the lottery was your only hope of landing one. Would-be buyers in Japan (where else?) were required to enter a raffle, with the winning ticket granting the right to purchase one at ¥21.87 million — just over £100,000 at current exchange rates. Spartan Campers may already have launched its new VW T7 conversion, but this Startline proves the company has not finished refining the T6.1 just yet. In fact, this is the most considered and user-friendly Spartan we’ve seen so far. Based on a long-wheelbase VW Transporter T6.1, this is a 150hp manual on a low-mileage 23-plate, with a price hovering around the £60,000 mark. Overall pricing across the range goes from just under £40,000 to around £75,000 depending on base vehicle and options.
